Bruce County Hazardous Waste Collection in Southampton

Bruce County is holding a hazardous waste collection event this weekend. Running on May 4th in Southampton, the collection will take place at the Southampton Works Yard on Peel Street. Items accepted for the event include paints and stains, propane tanks, used oil, batteries, antifreeze, oil filters, household cleaners, fertilizers and pesticides....

Temporary Lane Closure on Paisley Bridge

South Bruce OPP Say $260,000 Lost To Scams Recently

South Bruce OPP say they have seen an unfortunate rise in fraud reports in the five municipalities they patrol. OPP say, since the 1st of January 2024, South Bruce OPP have received 74 fraud related reports, amounting to over $260,000 in lost funds. The say scams that are becoming increasingly prevalent involve providing gift card numbers, cryptocurrency investment scams, and electronic transactions through online marketplaces and buy & sell social groups....

Inpatient Beds Being Moved to Kincardine and Walkerton

The South Bruce Grey Health Centre is taking action to address the need for health care needs in the community and provide better service during a time urgent and emergent care needs. As of June 3rd, 10 inpatient beds will be relocated to hospitals in Kincardine and Walkerton from Durham to provide patients in need of care with more consistent, safe and high quality care. Nursing staff will continue to work on site for urgent care daily from 7am-5pm....

South Bruce Deep Geological Repository Referendum To Be Held In October

South Bruce has set the date for its referendum on a proposed deep geological repository (DGR) to store Canada’s used nuclear fuel. Advance voting will start on Oct. 21, allowing voters a week to cast a ballot in the lead-up to referendum day, Monday, Oct. 28. The bylaw passed by council also confirms the question eligible voters in South Bruce will be asked: “Are you in favour of the Municipality of South Bruce declaring South Bruce to be a willing host for the Nuclear Waste Management Organization’s proposed deep geological repository?”...

Forest Near Wiarton Now Protected By Nature Conservancy

Sturgeon Bay Forest is now under the protection of Nature Conservancy Canada. The organization announced the acquisition of the lands near Wiarton on April 22, after the property was purchased in late 2023. Midwestern Ontario Program Director Esme Batten says the 65-hectare land features forests which provide habitat to many species as well as an important ecosystem....
